Designed by the Danish firm Henning Larsen Architects in collaboration with the Icelandic firm Batteríið Architects, Harpa's architecture is characterized by its distinctive glass facade composed of geometrically shaped panels in various colors. It is situated by the waterfront in Reykjavik's harbor area and has become an iconic symbol of the city.

Harpa is home to several dining options, including restaurants and cafés where visitors can enjoy Icelandic cuisine, light meals, snacks, and beverages. Some of these establishments offer views of the harbor and surrounding area, providing a pleasant dining experience.

Harpa features multiple performance spaces, including the Eldborg Hall, which is the largest concert hall in Iceland and known for its excellent acoustics. Other venues include the smaller Norðurljós Hall, Silfurberg Hall, and Kaldalón Hall, which cater to a variety of events ranging from classical concerts and opera to conferences and theatrical performances.
